Mustangs sweep at Norcal-Socal Showcase
The Mustangs stormed through the first Norcal-Socal Showcase with a perfect record of 4-0, the only undefeated team in the tournament. The tournament brought 4 of the best teams in Northern California against 4 of the best teams in Southern California.
The Mustangs took the first match against Bakersfield 3-1 (22-25; 25-17; 25-15; 25-18). The team was led by Emily Vickers with 17 kills with a hitting percentage of .640. The second match pitted the Mustangs against undefeated Pasadena City College. Again, the Mustangs came out on top 3-0 (25-22; 25-22; 27-25). Naila Ia led the team with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .550.
In the third match the Mustangs faced Cypress and won 3-0 (25-16; 25-16; 25-16). In the fourth match the Mustangs faced off against Grossmont College, a powerhouse program from San Diego. The Mustangs came out victorious 3-1 (15-25; 25-15; 25-20; 25-14). Libero Kyra Saiers led the team with 21 digs.
Outside hitter Emily Vickers was named to the All-Tournament team. In the 4 matches, Emily had 49 kills, hit .356, had 18 aces, 23 digs and 6 blocks. Setter Caprisa Brock had 147 assists and achieved the milestone of 1000 assists for her Delta career. Congratulations to the entire team on a great performance. The team is currently ranked number 2 in the state.
The Mustangs resume play at the Delta Classic on Thursday, September 5 at 1:00 pm against Shasta College.
