Delta softball team beats Monterey Peninsula twice, earns state tourney bid

STOCKTON — After stumbling Friday against Monterey Peninsula in the opener of its best-of-three CCCAA Northern California Super Regional series, the Delta College softball team knew it needed to win twice Saturday.

Third-ranked Delta's bats erupted just in time, including three home runs, to carry the Mustangs to 7-3 and 9-3 victories over the No. 6 Lobos on Saturday afternoon at the Bucky Layland Complex to punch their ticket back to the CCCAA state championships Thursday through next Saturday at Bakersfield College.
