Season Preview - Men's Basketball
November 1, 2024
After more than 40 practices with some of them early in the morning Rich Ressa's squad is ready to battle against teams in other uniforms and they will finally have the opportunity to do that later today as the Mustangs head to Cabrillo College to compete in the Cabrillo Tip-Off Classic starting with a game today against Gavilan at 3:00pm.
"We will go to Cabrillo and play two tough games so we will be tested right away," said head coach Rich Ressa days before the start of the season.
With a bulk of their leading scorers from last season gone this year's team will have a much different look. "Our lone returning starter is Andrew Galindo," said Ressa as Galindo started in 22 games last season and averaged 4.7 points per game. "We are really young, and it will take us some time to learn to play together."
Jordan Assefa and Dwight Strickland are two incoming freshmen that have Ressa excited to see their ceiling and potential to make an impact this season.
"What we lack in experience we will make up for in energy and effort," said Ressa. "We want guys to be a better version of themselves. We are very unselfish and share the ball. I think we are going to be hard for teams to defend against. I think we are going to share the ball which will be fun for everyone. We have a lot of learning to do. We just hope to be playing our best basketball at the end of the season."
"It's more about us and how we execute. It's all a process and about how well we embrace the process and the challenges to improve which will write the story on how the season goes."
