Delta College Baseball Opens Home Series
San Joaquin Delta College opened its first home series under head coach Harmen Sidhu with an exciting extra-inning win over Cerritos College at Nick Cecchetti Field. The Mustangs jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning behind a two-run double from Miguel Garcia and an RBI double from J. Ortega. Delta added another run in the second when J. Shabry singled Thompson home to take a 4–0 lead.
Cerritos chipped away in the middle innings and tied the game in the fifth, but Delta answered right back as Blake doubled in Gomez from third base to regain the lead. The Mustangs expanded their lead
in the seventh when Reis delivered an RBI double and Shabry followed with an RBI single, pushing Delta ahead 8–5.
The Falcons rallied late, scoring four runs in the eighth to briefly take a 9–8 lead. Delta tied the game late, and in the bottom of the 10th, Ortega came through again with a walk-off RBI single to score Keys and seal the opening-game victory for the Mustangs versus Cerritos series.
"The first game of a series is always a feel-out game, especially against an opponent you don't know much about, and it turned into a slugfest. Our guys stuck with it, finished the game the next day, and getting that win really set the tone for the rest of the series", said Coach Sidhu.
