Interim Head Coach, Bob Kittle begins his 1st season at Delta (was the pitching coach on the State Finalist team 2024) with a lot of new faces. Nate Gregory returns and will oversee the pitching staff. Gabe Guerreo returns to help with pitching, scouting, recruiting and 1st base coach. Heath Lane will be with the infielders and hitters and bench coach. Mike Gerlach will oversee the outfielders, hitters and be the 3rd base coach. Cisco Prado will be doing the catching.
Last year's 2024 State finalists saw 22 move on to new schools (14 to Division 1 schools). This year's group will need to gel quickly to complete the job of winning the state championship.
Depth: The Mustangs are extremely game inexperienced and have a smaller roster. Their athletic ability and grit will be needed to get through the difficult Big 8 conference which appears to be loaded once again. Seven of the nine Big 8 teams are ranked in the preseason coaches' poll, including four in the top seven.
Pitching: While it;s an inexperienced staff (return a total of 13 innings), it also has 10 players that light the radar gun up at 90+ mph this fall. Returners Thomas Meyer and Miguel Ramos, Transfers Matthew Goebel (UCLA) and Aden Bowman (UOP) and red shirt freshmen Jack Soares, Cory Sugg and Carter March look to lead a very deep staff
Infield: The infield is extremely skilled and should be one of the top defensive infields in the state. Derrick Pham (SS) is an elite defender and Korbin Hodgson, Alec Nava and Ian Guanzon are not far behind. 1st base is manned by Sam Tillman and powerful Malaki Bosschart. The infield is a huge strength for the Mustangs
Outfielders: The powerful and athletic outfield should be another strength for the Mustangs, led by returner Elias Rubio, Joel Roberts and newcomers Sutter Moss, Kyle Sandner and Jacob Ortega.
Catchers: The Mustang catching core is very deep w last years returning Caleb Velo and JoJo Roman and Matt Cormier.
The talent level and focus offers plenty of optimism for another CCCAA State Title Run. With the Big 8 conference loaded with talent once again, the Mustangs better bring their "A" game on a daily basis to do it.
