Women's Basketball
It would be hard to not start with them as they made history in March capturing their first ever 3C2A State Championship with a come from behind 76-71 win over Mira Costa. Trailing by as many as 20 points the Mustangs come back for the ages was led by tournament MVP Aaliyah Youngblood who had 20 points to go with six assists. She was also recently named as a WBCA two-year college All-American. Congratulations to head coach Gina Johnson and her entire staff and team on a historical season!
Baseball
It's a battle at the top of the Big 8 Conference and the Mustangs are near the top currently sitting in second place with a 20-9 record overall and 10-6 in conference play after a 10-7 win on Wednesday. Sophomore Tyson Reis has a team-high 24 runs batted in as the Mustangs average over six runs per game and have a total of ten players with at least 11 runs batted in this season. Vance Haskins leads the pitching staff with five wins while striking out 52 batters in 52 innings pitched. They will be back at home on Friday to conclude a three-game series against Cosumnes River College with the game scheduled for 2:00pm.
Softball
Also, in a battle at the top of the Big 8 Conference standings they are currently 20-8 overall and 11-4 in conference play which has just a game out of first entering the final month of the regular season. If you follow them on social media, you will know it's not safe to park near the outfield fence as their big bats have been led this season by Daniella Hunter with five home runs and 27 runs batted in. Kiki Mazza is right behind her with three home runs and 25 runs batted in. Elisa Galli has pitched a bulk of the innings this season and is currently 15-2 with 126 strikeouts. They are next in action on Saturday for a pair of games against Cosumnes River College before returning home next week on Tuesday for a game against Folsom Lake at 3:00pm.
Men's Golf
It was a busy month out on the links and routinely leading the way for the Mustangs was Luke Hyland as he was an individual medalist after shooting a 72 in their most recent competition. The week before it was Eli Kruppa who led the way shooting a 74 as the team finished third at Elkhorn Country Club. In one of the most exciting finishes of the season Luke Hyland had an eagle and multiple birdies to finish tied for first at Woodbridge Country Club. They will wrap up the regular season later this month before the postseason starts in May.
Beach Volleyball
Winners of ten straight they did not lose a single match during the month of March as their special season has them sitting at 14-2 overall and an undefeated 10-0 in Big 8 Conference play. Starting the month with 3-2 wins over Folsom Lake and American River they also ended the month with back-to-back 3-2 wins as they returned from Solano with wins over Solano and Santa Rosa. They will be on the road tomorrow for a pair of matches in Folsom before returning home for sophomore day on Friday April 10th for a 1:30pm match against Sacramento City.
Track and Field
The excitement continues to grow as the Delta Legacy Classic returns to campus this Friday for a full day of track and field action. Recently at the Coast vs. Valley meet in Modesto the Mustangs got a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters from Jaylon Harris and a third-place finish by Xavier Beyer in the 400m hurdles while teammates Isaac Anderson and Zoom Wilson finished second and third in the shot put. On the women's side Lola Rodriguez Orozco had a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters while Amyah Moore had the performance of the meet taking home first in the 100m hurdles.
Swimming
As the weather heats up what better place to be than in the pool as just a couple meets remain with eyes set on the state championships at the end of April. At the Bob Miyashiro Invite the women's team had a pair of second place finishes with Victoria Guzman in the 100 IM and Crystallyn Tran in the 200 fly. In the 800 free relay the women's team also had a third-place finish. Recently competing at the Hawk Invite it was Guy Hein and Tobias Beutel who led their men's team in scoring.
Women's Wrestling
Not only did they recently honor their sophomores, but they could not have asked for the night to go much better as they won both matches defeating Lassen and Modesto by identical 35-10 scores. Kayleen Tuavao, Linda Mora, Perla Comacho Meza, and Zoey Rodriguez all won both of their matches. Earlier in the month at the Santa Rosa Open they finished in fourth place with three different student-athletes having first place performances.
